Well-informed and helpful neighbor William J. Carter, 38, died October 21 in the Greenwood Buffalo Wild Wings. Carter, who was at the restaurant to watch the Colts - Browns game, was beaten to death by an angry mob of his fellow patrons. Carter's co-worker Phil Robinson, who was with Carter, reported, "William--yeah, not 'Bill' or 'Will;' he insisted on 'William'--was like that Cliff guy on Cheers: always had some obscure fact or inane comment. I invited him to come watch the game because he didn't have many friends--imagine that--and I felt sorry for the guy. I told him to keep it down with the comments, but I guess he just couldn't help himself." According to multiple witnesses, Carter's last words were, "You know, in the rest of the world, 'football' is . . . "
