Benjamin J. “Wow Wow” Wojowski, 53, died September 24. Wojowski, for decades a celebrated high-wire walker with the Peru Amateur Youth Circus and Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus, was walking through downtown Indianapolis when he tripped over his own feet while approaching the corner of Meridian and Ohio Streets. Unable to regain his balance despite several seconds of jerky, flailing attempts to do so, Wojowski fell off the curb into the path of an oncoming IndyGo bus. During his circus career, “Wow Wow” Wojowski’s signature act was to hop on one foot across a high wire while balancing a chair—with an egg perched atop the chair back--on his head and spinning hoops on his arms.
