BIRMINGHAM, AL - Ahead of polling in the southern state of Alabama Tuesday, presidential hopeful Newt Gingrich today delivered an impromptu speech without referring to either a teleprompter or his list of policies.

In what was essentially a 30-minute critique of Barack Obama's performance as president, Gingrich made use of his improvisational skills to address a 200-strong crowd in the city of Birmingham.

"Under President Obama, a nuclear-armed Iran would be allowed to target and obliterate our friends in Israel," said Gingrich, seemingly not reading from pre-prepared notes, a teleprompter or his own campaign's foreign policy agenda. "That is why he must be removed from office this November."

Accusing the president of mismanaging the economy, Mr Gingrich - aided by nothing but his quick wit and sterling intellect - would not be drawn on his own strategy for fixing it.

"Let me just say this," he continued. "As someone who doesn't rely on a teleprompter, I am the only viable candidate who can beat Barack Obama in a debate. Especially a debate over why he is such an awful president."

However, Mr Gingrich insists he will outline his campaign's list of policies in a single Tweet ahead of campaigns in Illinois on March 20.
