COMPETITION: Become The Tribune's Official Obituaries Writer

The Editor | Thursday, September 01, 2011 | | | Best Blogger Tips

Fancy yourself as a comedic writer? Have a macabre sense of humor? Then you might just be the perfect candidate to become the official Obituaries writer for The Indy Tribune.

The Indy Tribune (TIT) is looking for an experienced and dedicated writer to compose and publish one fake death entry into our Obituaries section every day. Additional requirements of the role include, and are probably limited to, the following:
  1. Promoting the section through social media.
Our Obituaries section offers our readers an alternative form of news humor from the normal, factory-churned front page articles that you see on a daily basis. While the position is unpaid, writing for and heading up our Obituaries section is a great opportunity to showcase your knack for extremely concise comedic writing and there's nothing like seeing all those Facebook Likes beneath your work!

HOW TO ENTER
To enter the competition for a chance to become our official Obituaries writer, simply email 5 sample entries to editor@theindytribune.com. The winner will be selected by a panel of judges after all entries are received. The deadline for your entries will be November 15, 2011.

To gain an understanding of exactly what we're looking for, visit our Obituaries section. Be sure that each of your submissions includes the following pieces of information.
  1. The name of the deceased capitalized in bold as the "title"
  2. The name of the deceased in lower case
  3. Age of the deceased
  4. Date of death
  5. Cause of death.
