Claude Kwizera, 10, of Bujumbura, Republic of Burundi, died in his family’s lean-to shack on August 18 of malnutrition while being filmed for a television commercial for the Feed the Children Fund. Kwizera had until recently been one of the Fund’s sponsored children, but his sponsors, Bob and Mary Catherine McCarthy of Indianapolis, did not renew their sponsorship in April. “I guess it just slipped their minds,” reported Jim Black, the cameraman who captured Kwizera’s final moments. “It’s terrible when people can let stuff like this happen and not do anything about it,” Black added between mouthfuls of a massive roast beef sandwich. “But I did get some great stuff for the next commercial.”
