INDIANAPOLIS - Police arrested a 35-year-old man last night after eye-witnesses reported him knocking dead the 47 theatre goers who came to see his portrayal of Iago in a community theatre production of Shakespeare's Othello.

Brian Mathis, a longtime member of Indianapolis Mainstage Theatre, was taken into police custody late last night after giving what was widely agreed to be a sterling portrayal throughout the 3-hour show.

"We responded to reports that a 35-year-old man had left an entire auditorium absolutely breathless," said Police Chief Dustin Magnus. "Right now, we're just trying to establish the facts, but it seems by all accounts that the gentleman in question gave an absolute killer performance."

The news comes as a double blow to the Indianapolis Mainstage Theatre, after reports emerged this past August that the "entire place was dead" during an under-publicized rendition of Pinocchio.
